Patricia Funk, CNM

I’m so glad you are here! Let me introduce myself. I was born and raised in a Christian home in Durham, North Carolina. I am the youngest of 4 children and the only girl! I am thankful to have been saved by Jesus’ grace as a young child. I felt called to the field of midwifery from the age of 11 and witnessed my first birth as a high schooler. One of the families that I babysat for knew of my interest in midwifery and allowed me the opportunity to witness the birth of their third child. It was nothing short of amazing!

Fast forward a few years. I graduated from Cedarville University’s nursing school in 2016. This is where I met my husband, Brian. We got married in November of 2016, after relocating back to NC. I started my nursing career on a neuroscience medical-surgical floor at UNC Hospitals. While working at UNC, I went through their volunteer doula training program. In 2018, I acquired a new job that aligned more closely with my passion! I started working as a labor and delivery nurse at Alamance Regional Medical Center. I am so thankful for my time there! In the course of a few years, I gave birth to our 3 daughters, all smooth and uncomplicated deliveries at Women’s Birth and Wellness Center in Chapel Hill. I had wonderful experiences there and my passion for out-of-hospital birth grew.

While working as a labor and delivery nurse, I started my midwifery journey through East Carolina University’s distance education program. Thanks to the Lord’s strength and the constant support of my husband and parents, I graduated in May 2022 with my MSN in Nurse-Midwifery. I took and passed boards in September of 2022. And in December, we added a little boy to the family—our first home birth! Seeing the excitement on my daughters' faces as they witnessed their brother's birth solidified to me the importance of making home birth a reality for more women!

As a student midwife, I had the honor and privilege of completing most of my clinical rotations at Natural Beginnings Birth & Wellness Center in Statesville, NC. Attending those out-of-hospital births confirmed my desire to practice in the community setting. I am so excited to now be offering home birth services to the women in my NC community!

Katherine Foti, RN BSN

Birth Assistant

Hey y'all! My name is Katherine. I was born and raised in NC. I live with my husband, Ray, and our 4 boys, on my family's farm in Julian. We homeschool, have a handful of farm animals, and spend most of our time outdoors.

I have been a Registered Nurse since 2010. I have experience in a level 1 trauma center and have spent the last 12 years of my career in the Emergency Department.

My love for home birth originates from my own birth experiences. My husband and I took the Bradley Method childbirth class during our first pregnancy. Our amazing instructor sparked our interest in out-of-hospital birth. Our first child was born at a birth center. The next 3 were planned home births with our trusted birth team.

I am so excited for this opportunity to work with Patricia in the home birth setting and can't wait to meet you!
